MM Stainless Steel Brake Caliper Sleeves: The Maximum Motorsports stainless steel brake caliper sleeves replace the factory rubber bushings. The rubber bushings let the calipers move during braking, preventing the pad from contacting the rotor surface squarely. This movement reduces your brakes' effectiveness and leads to tapered pad wear. These caliper sleeves also fit the 73mm SVO calipers. |

Maximum Motorsports Manual Brake Conversion Kit
Eliminate the problems associated with power-assisted brakes by installing MM's new Manual Brake Conversion Kit. While power-assisted brakes are great for a street car, they cause problems for race cars. Drag racers like manual brakes because they eliminate the need for the large and heavy vacuum booster. Road racers benefit even more by switching to manual brakes because power-assisted brakes make brake modulation very difficult. With power assisted brakes, the level of assist changes due to fluctuating engine vacuum. This change in assist causes the required amount of pedal effort to change. The pedal has an inconsistent feel to the driver, and the amount of pedal pressure required changes during braking.
Manual brakes are not affected by changing engine vacuum. The pedal feel remains consistent in all situations, leading to an easier and more consistent braking technique. The increased pedal effort of a manual brake system can provide better feedback to the driver about what is happening between the tires and the pavement. While the pedal requires slightly more effort during braking than power-assisted brakes do, the effort is not nearly as much as a malfunctioning power brake system requires when there is a loss of vacuum from the booster. Why does the MM Manual Brake Conversion Kit not have an unacceptably high amount of pedal effort? Because MM's Engineering Team designed a brake pedal arm with the proper mechanical leverage ratio for a brake system that does not have power assist.
Unlike any other manual brake conversion kit, MM includes a new brake pedal arm. The MM kit only moderately increases the brake pedal effort because they changed the pedal arm geometry, from that of power-assisted brakes to the proper mechanical leverage ratio for non-assisted brakes. With other manual brake conversion kits, the pedal effort is greatly increased because they maintain the power brake geometry, instead of supplying a pedal arm with the correct geometry for manual brakes. MM's engineers also designed our pedal to be stronger than the stock pedal arm. We even built a fixture to conduct destructive comparison testing of a stock pedal arm and our new arm. The tests confirmed that our new pedal arm not only has more ultimate strength before permanently deforming, but also is more rigid in normal use. This increased rigidity contributes greatly to better brake pedal feel, as well as to improved control when modulating the brakes.
The MM kit also has a unique pedal pad assembly. The pedal pad bolts to the pedal arm in any one of six possible positions. This allows you to customize the brake pedal's position to suit your needs. The pedal pad has two possible fore and aft positions, and three possible vertical positions. This lets you fine-tune the mechanical leverage ratio to suit your preferences. Changing the position of the pedal pad, relative to the throttle pedal, can aid in heel-and-toeing.
The MM kit includes a new, and stronger, adjustable length pushrod that attaches to the pedal arm with a spherical rod end. This attachment method eliminates the sloppy fit of the stock pushrod, further improving the pedal feel.
The MM kit has a CNC machined aluminum adapter block that bolts to the firewall in place of the vacuum booster. This adapter is designed to mount a stock Ford master cylinder. By using readily available Ford master cylinders, you are assured of always being able to find one easily, whether at home or at the track. For most applications we recommend the 1993 Cobra master cylinder, with its 1" bore. Other Ford master cylinders (from 1986-1995) can be used if a different bore size is desired. Look here for brake master cylinders.
For cars that already have had a manual brake conversion kit installed, but need a brake pedal with the proper leverage ratio for a manual brake system, MM offers a kit that does not include the firewall adaptor block. |

To maintain safe stopping distances, install only on cars with rear disc brakes and improved front discs. The Manual Brake Conversion Kit is NOT intended for use with a stock, unmodified braking system. Stopping distances will dramatically INCREASE if the Manual Brake Conversion Kit is used with the OEM small front disc/rear drum braking system of a Fox chassis Mustang.

Master Cylinder Brake Line Adapter Kits for MM Manual Brake Conversion
These kits include brake hard lines and adapter fittings to aid with the installation of the MM Manual Brake Conversion Kit (MMBAK-10) on 1979-93 Mustangs. The brake master cylinder will be relocated to a position 6.5" closer to the firewall when the MM Manual Brake Conversion Kit is installed. This new position requires changes in the routing of the brake hard lines. MM's has developed kits to help with the installation of the four most popular master cylinders. The correct choice of adapter kit depends on the master cylinder being used, and whether the stock brake proportioning valve/junction block is retained or if the chassis has been re-plumbed with standard 3/16" brake lines.
MM's has designed adapter kits for each of the four most popular master cylinders.
* 1987-93 power brakes (3 outlet ports)
* 1986 SVO power brakes (2 outlet ports)
* 1993 Cobra (2 outlet ports)
* 1994 GT (2 outlet ports)
When the stock proportioning valve (either internally stock, or gutted) is to be left in place, choose the appropriate MMBAK-X.1 kit for your master cylinder. A 3-port to 2-port conversion is needed (unless the 1987-93 stock master cylinder is used) and is included in the appropriate kits. Includes all parts necessary to connect the relocated master cylinder to the stock proportioning valve. The .1 version kits include all parts necessary to connect the relocated master cylinder to the stock proportioning valve.
Recommended for race cars! When the stock proportioning valve will be removed, to be replaced by T-fittings, and the brake lines will be re-plumbed with standard 3/16" hard lines (which have standard 3/8"-24 thread tube nuts), use the appropriate MMBAK-X.2 kit for your master cylinder. The .2 version kits include adapter fittings for the master cylinder only, so that they will match 3/8"-24 flare fittings used on standard 3/16" brake hard lines.
For most 4-wheel disc brake equipped cars, MM's recommend the 1" diameter bore 1993 Cobra master cylinder, BMC-2. If the stock proportioning valve will be gutted (as required when an adjustable proportioning valve will also be fitted), a BPV-2 plug is required.

Maximum Motorsports Brake Proportioning Valve Eliminator, MMBAK-6
This kit allows easy installation of an adjustable brake proportioning valve.
Installing an adjustable brake proportioning valve requires disabling the original factory proportioning valve, either by removing it from the system, or by dismantling it and installing a different end plug. While it is common for race cars to have the brake lines completely re-plumbed to eliminate the stock proportioning valve, MM designed this kit to allow easily removing the stock proportioning valve while also retaining all of the stock brake line plumbing. This is much easier to do than the alternatives of either dismantling the stock valve or re-plumbing the hard lines! Replacing the bulky stock proportioning valve with the much smaller MM Eliminator kit also cleans up the engine compartment, for improved appearance. |
|
|
The MM Brake Proportioning Valve Eliminator Kit maintains separate front and rear brake hydraulic systems. It is only to be installed on Mustangs that also have an adjustable proportioning valve. This product is intended for off-highway application only. |
